Summary

Capital Group prides itself on delivering innovative solutions to clients and associates using emerging technologies like Generative AI. To achieve this, we utilized an Innovation Sprint Process to identify the most important product challenges and align leaders and associates on the biggest opportunities.

The Design Sprint process originally created at Google was specifically tailored for Capital Group and an enterprise environment to provide consistent and valuable outcomes. We are now able to offer a repeatable process that stakeholders and their team members can buy into, helping them visualize, incubate, and launch their strategic priorities.

The Challenge

As challenges become more complex and ambiguous, we needed to help our teams build a clear understanding of the most important product and customer challenges. Our goal was to align leaders and associates on the biggest opportunities and validate or invalidate innovative concepts before investing resources.

Our Approach

After helping prepare the internal innovation team run remote Design Sprints due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, I joined Capital Group as a Venture Architect. My role was to help expand the teams capacity to help leaders and associates visualize, incubate and launch their strategic priorities.

To build a repeatable process, we built off past successful Design Sprints and various workshops to help us identify what aspects had worked well and which needed to be modified to work in an enterprise environment.

Our final process expanded on the original process and broke things down into multiple phases going from Immersion, Ideation, and Iteration and moving into Positioning with stakeholders and in some cases leading proof of concept development to further validate or invalidate a solution.

Our repeatable process allowed stakeholders, business leaders and multi-disciplinary associates to come together to build a foundational understanding and connect the dots to the most pressing challenges at Capital Group.

Outcomes

Our Innovation Sprint Process has allowed us to deliver innovative solutions for over a dozen teams within 12 months to drive leadership, product, and architecture decisions. Helping the organization invest in the most valuable opportunities to build a competitive advantage for Capital Group. At the start of 2023 the team was tasked to lead the discussion around Generative AI and establish working groups to help the organization understand how to strategically leveraged this emerging technology for the next 3-5 years.
